Lumina Learning Center, LLC (doing business as Lumina Learning Center) — “we,” “us,” “our” — respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you contact us, request a session, enroll a student, or opt in to receive text messages from us; how we use it; who can see it; and the choices you have.
The short version. We collect only what we need to schedule and deliver tutoring: a parent or guardian's name, contact details, and basic information about the student. We use it to reach you and to run our program. We do not sell your information, and we never share your mobile number or your text-message consent with anyone for their own marketing.

1. Information we collect
Information you give us directly
When you fill out the request form on our website, call or text us, email us, book a session, or enroll a student, we may collect:
- Parent or guardian name
- Mobile or other phone number
- Email address
- Your consent to receive text messages from us, along with the date, time and method by which you gave it
- Information about the student — first name, grade level, school, subject areas of concern, and anything else you choose to tell us in the message field or during a conversation
- Scheduling information — the sessions you book, attend, reschedule or miss
- Session and progress information — assessment results, tutor notes, and progress reports created while we work with your student
- Billing information — the amounts you are charged and your payment history. Card and bank details are entered into and stored by our payment processor, not by us; we see only the last four digits and the status of a payment.
Information collected automatically
When you visit luminalearningcenter.com, our hosting provider and analytics and advertising tools may collect your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you viewed, the site or ad that referred you, and similar technical information. See section 7.
Information from schools and partners
If your student receives tutoring through a school, district or partner organization, that organization may give us the information we need to serve the student, such as name, grade, and assessment data. In that case we handle the information under our agreement with them and under applicable student-privacy laws.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate our business and provide tutoring, coaching and enrichment services
- Respond to your inquiry and schedule your complimentary first session
- Send you the text messages you have opted in to receive (see section 4)
- Call or email you about your request, your student's sessions, and your account
- Match your student with an appropriate tutor and prepare for sessions
- Track attendance and progress, and report on it to you and, where applicable, to a partner school or district
- Bill you and keep required financial and tax records
- Improve our programs, our website and our instruction
- Comply with the law and enforce our agreements
We do not use information about your student to build advertising profiles, and we do not use student data for any purpose other than delivering and improving the educational services you asked for.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
Customer data is not shared with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes.
Mobile opt-in and consent are never shared with anyone for any purpose. Any information sharing that may be mentioned elsewhere in this policy excludes mobile opt-in data. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
We share information only in these limited situations:
| Who | Why |
|---|---|
| Our own team — employees and contracted tutors and support staff | To schedule sessions, teach your student, answer your questions and support your account. They are bound by written confidentiality obligations and may use the information only to serve you. |
| Service providers who run parts of our operation on our behalf — our website host and form service, our text-messaging and telephone platform, our scheduling and video tools, our payment processor, and our email provider | To deliver the service you requested. They may use the information only to perform that work for us and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. |
| A school, district or partner organization, if your student is served through one | To report attendance, dosage and progress under our agreement with them. |
| Legal and professional advisors, or authorities | When required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the safety of a child or another person. |
| A successor, if our business is sold or reorganized | The information would transfer with the business and remain subject to this policy. Mobile opt-in data and SMS consent are excluded and would require fresh consent. |
Our own staff and the vendors listed above are not “third parties” receiving your data for their own use — they act for us, under our instructions.
4. SMS text messaging program terms and conditions
- What we send. The messaging program may consist of general customer care messaging to answer questions and provide support to customers; appointment, session and scheduling reminders; account and billing notices; and/or marketing messaging that includes discount codes, special deals or texts promoting our products and services, depending on which program(s) you opt in to. Service messages and promotional messages are two separate programs with two separate consents — see item 2. We will only send content you have explicitly signed up to receive via our opt-in process. Messages will be sent from (866) 586-4623.
- How you opt in — two separate consents. The contact form at luminalearningcenter.com has two separate, unchecked boxes. The first opts you in to service messages: scheduling, session reminders, replies to your questions, and account or billing notices. The second separately opts you in to promotional messages: new class announcements and enrollment offers. A third box lets you decline explicitly: “No, I do not want to receive any text messages from Lumina Learning Center.” You may check either consent box, both, or the decline box. Agreeing to service messages does not sign you up for promotional messages. Consent to either is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services — you can request tutoring without agreeing to any texts. You may also opt in by texting us first, or by giving us written permission during an enrollment conversation, in which case we record which of the two programs you agreed to and when.
- How to stop. You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text STOP to the phone number from which you received messages. After you send the SMS message STOP to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again. STOP cancels both programs at once. If you want to keep your session reminders but stop only the promotional messages, email or call us and we will remove you from the promotional list and leave your service messages in place.
- How to get help. If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at joe_cortez@luminalearningcenter.com or by calling (866) 586-4623.
- Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Cost and frequency. As always, message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you. Message frequency will vary based on communication needs. If you have any questions about your text plan or data plan, it is best to contact your wireless provider.
- Eligibility. You must be at least 18 years old and the owner or authorized user of the mobile number you provide. We do not knowingly send text messages to students under 18. Messages go to the parent or guardian.
- Privacy questions. If you have any questions regarding privacy, please read the rest of this page or contact us at joe_cortez@luminalearningcenter.com.
5. Phone calls
If you give us your phone number, a member of our team may call you about your inquiry, your student's schedule, or your account. If you told us you would like to hear about programs and offers, we may also call you about those.
You can ask us to stop calling at any time by telling the caller, by emailing joe_cortez@luminalearningcenter.com, or by calling (866) 586-4623, and we will add you to our internal do-not-call list. Asking us to stop marketing calls does not stop the scheduling and service calls you need in order to use our tutoring, unless you ask us to stop those too.
6. Students and children's privacy
Our services are for students in grades K–12, but our website, our forms and our messaging program are directed to parents, guardians and school staff — not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13 through our website or our text messaging program.
Information about a student reaches us from the parent or guardian who enrolls them, or from a school or district acting with the required permission. We use student information only to deliver and improve the tutoring services requested, never to advertise to a child, and never to build a profile for any purpose other than instruction.
If you believe a child has given us information directly, please contact us at joe_cortez@luminalearningcenter.com and we will delete it. A parent or guardian may review, correct or request deletion of their child's information at any time using the contact details in section 12.
7. Cookies, analytics and advertising
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to work and to remember your language preference. We also use:
- Google Ads / Google tag — to measure which ads bring families to our site and to understand how the site is used. Google may set cookies and process this information under its own privacy policy.
- Google Fonts and an embedded Google Calendar booking tool — loading these means your browser contacts Google's servers.
- FormSubmit — the service that delivers our contact form submissions to our email inbox.
Our site may also link to Facebook. Once you follow a link to another company's site, that company's privacy policy governs. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking them may affect how parts of our site work. We do not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals.
8. How long we keep information
We keep inquiry information for up to 24 months if you never enroll, so we can pick up the conversation where it left off. We keep student and session records for as long as your student is with us and then for up to 5 years, so we can provide progress histories and meet reporting obligations. We keep billing and tax records for 7 years as required by law. Records of your SMS consent and of any STOP request are kept for as long as we run the messaging program, because carriers and regulators require us to be able to prove both.
9. How we protect information
We limit access to your information to the people who need it to do their jobs, require unique accounts and multi-factor authentication where available, use reputable vendors with encryption in transit, and require every tutor and staff member to sign a confidentiality agreement. Our educators are background checked. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your information.
10. Your choices and your rights
- Text messages: reply STOP to any message, or email us. STOP ends both the service and the promotional program; to stop only promotional texts and keep your session reminders, email or call us.
- Marketing email: click unsubscribe in any message, or email us.
- Phone calls: ask us to stop, and we will add you to our internal do-not-call list.
- Access, correction and deletion: you may ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you or your student, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email joe_cortez@luminalearningcenter.com and we will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity first, and we may need to keep some records the law requires us to retain.
Depending on where you live — including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and a growing number of other states — you may have additional rights, such as the right to know what we collect, the right to delete, the right to correct, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in state privacy laws, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising directed at your student. To exercise any right, use the contact details below.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make a material change to how we use your information or to our messaging program, we will tell you by email or text before the change takes effect. Continuing to use our services after an update means you accept the revised policy.
